Hyundai Remapping & ECU Tuning

Hyundai shares much of its engineering with Kia, and has followed a similar path in Britain, from value option to genuinely competitive mainstream choice. The Tucson is the volume seller, with the i30 covering hatchback duty, the Santa Fe handling larger family and towing work, and the i800 serving as a people carrier and light commercial.

As with Kia, it’s the CRDi turbodiesels that respond best. They’re conservatively calibrated from the factory to suit a global market, which leaves usable headroom for a map written specifically for your vehicle.

Matching the map to the job

A Tucson doing commuting and family miles usually benefits most from economy remapping, better efficiency at everyday revs plus more relaxed low-down pull. A Stage 1 remap gives a broader improvement in response if that’s what you’re after.

If your Hyundai is doing towing work in the Santa Fe or carrying loads in an i800, low-down torque is the thing to target. We also cover diagnostics and engine solutions. Always always reversible.

Locked ECUs on 2021-onward Hyundai

Hyundai models built from 2021 onward often run a Bosch MDG1 ECU, and until recently those were locked. The unit would accept an official update but would not give up its own software, so it had to come out of the vehicle and be posted to a specialist to be unlocked before any tuning could start.

That step can now be done on the bench in the same visit, which takes the postage, the separate unlock fee and the days of waiting out of the job. On the Hyundai side the covered models include the Staria, Starex, Porter and Palisade.
